Live soundscapes with African instruments and contemporary sonic textures

Nuno Oliveira offers live performances that blend West African instruments with modern sound design. His sets combine kora, balafon, djembe, dunun, kalimba and handcrafted acoustic tools with ambient layers and hybrid electronic elements, creating immersive and organic sonic environments.

He performs in festivals, cultural events, theatre productions, contemporary dance and multidisciplinary artistic contexts, shaping each performance around rhythm, resonance and storytelling.

He also collaborates with other artists, bringing African instruments into multidisciplinary projects as both a performer and a sonic contributor.

Composition

Original music for cinema, theatre and contemporary dance

Nuno composes original soundtracks that merge African timbres, acoustic textures and contemporary sound design. His music supports narrative, movement and visual expression through atmospheric layers, organic instruments and carefully crafted sonic details.

He collaborates with directors, choreographers and theatre companies, creating bespoke compositions for films, stage productions, dance performances and artistic installations.

Nuno also collaborates with other artists, providing African instruments and acoustic textures as part of collective compositions and interdisciplinary works.

Teaching

Lessons in African percussion and introductory kora

Nuno teaches African percussion and traditional instruments through individual lessons and group workshops. His teaching focuses on rhythm, coordination, cultural roots and creative expression, supported by hands‑on practice and attentive listening.

He offers instruction in djembe, dunun (Dununba, Sangban, Kenkeni) and beginner‑level kora, working with students of all ages, schools, cultural associations and artistic groups.
