Nuno Oliveira – Multi‑Instrumentalist & Sonic Explorer

Nuno Oliveira is a Portuguese multi‑instrumentalist based in Sarzana, Italy. His work blends West African traditions, acoustic resonance and contemporary sound design, shaped by two decades of experience with djembé, dununs, krin, balafon and kora. He creates immersive sonic environments where traditional instruments and modern textures coexist, moving fluidly between performance, composition and teaching.
Nuno’s musical journey began in 2004 with Tam Tam Mandingue Portugal, followed by performances with the Costa de Prata samba school and the Allatantou Dance Company. In 2013, he began studying the kora under Gambian musician Mbye Ebrima, leading to collaborations with the Yawal project and KorestrA, an orchestra dedicated to preserving Mandinka musical heritage.
Active across theatre, contemporary dance and documentary cinema, Nuno composes original soundtracks, performs in multidisciplinary projects, teaches African percussion, and builds handcrafted acoustic tools. His artistic approach merges tradition, craftsmanship and modern sound design.
He also creates meditative acoustic environments using instruments such as Tibetan bowls, focusing on resonance and deep listening
